After two years together, Alex has been dreading the inevitable moment when Damon learns the truth that Alex is a shifter, part of a small percentage of the population able to switch genders at will. Thanks to a forced implant, though, Alex is suddenly static — unable to shift — and male. Overnight, he’s out to a world that neither understands nor tolerates shifters . . . and to his heterosexual boyfriend.

Damon is stunned to discover his girlfriend is a shifter, and scared to death of the dangers the implant poses to Alex’s health. He refuses to abandon Alex, but what about their relationship? Damon is straight, and with the implant both costly and dangerous to remove, Alex is stuck as a man.

Stripped of half his identity and facing serious physical and social ramifications, Alex needs Damon more than ever, but he doesn’t see how they can get through this.

Especially if he’s static forever.

Static edition by LA Witt Romance eBooks

I'm not certain that I can actually do justice here. This book was amazing. It's way too easy to take for granted just how fortunate those of us are that were born with the same gender identity as our physical body. As a species, we tend to fear that which we do not understand instead of embracing it and using the opportunity to learn more about ourselves. Static illustrates, I think quite effectively, many of the gender issues we deal with in our society and how trying to force an accepted gender"norm" on everyone is not only wrong, but beyond detrimental.

From the beginning of the book when we find out what Alex's mom and step-dad did, I really hated them for not only the emotional abuse they put Alex though from the time the realized that s/he was a shifter, but that they would force something so drastic...It's unconscionable.

I loved watching Damon's journey to understanding that Alex is still Alex and that no matter what gender Alex is, Damon is still in love with him/her. When it finally clicked for Damon, I nearly did a fist pump. It just made me happy.

Static edition by LA Witt Romance eBooks Reviews

I've been a fan of this author for some time and this book doesn't disappoint. I do believe more time could have been spent exploring Damon's acceptance of Alex's identity and sexual relationship once Damon decided to move forward - it's such an interesting theme and I want more!
I don't write reviews because i'm not real good at it. But I had to let anyone inquiring about this book know that this book is amazing. This is easily the best book I've read all year. Try it, it won't disappoint.....
There is no words to discribe how beautiful and awesome a read this was. From the beginning i was hooked and I couldn't stop reading from that point on. It took me a whole day to finish it cause I couldn't put it down. To see the characters grow to understand one another was the highlight of the book. I'm glad Damon learn that Alex is still Alex no matter what form in the end. Some cute romance mixed in and this made for an awesome Transgendered book!
Static is one of the first books in a while I haven't wanted to put down.

I really enjoyed reading this. Genderqueer representation in literature is hard to come by, and not always done well. This was a wonderful exception. The only reason I'm giving this four stars instead of five was that I felt that the first 2/3 of the book dragged a bit, and we kept having the same conversations over and over again, with the plot not really moving forward for most of the book, and then jumping ahead all at once toward the end. Damon continuously didn't know how he felt, and Alex kept holding Damon at arm's length, knowing he would leave. I wanted to yell at Damon several times to just go and hold the person he had been in love with for two years without making a big deal about it.

Apart form that, I really enjoyed it. I myself identify as gender fluid, feeling both male and female at different times, but living 24/7 in a male body. I totally identified with Alex's perspective how she can feel totally comfortable or excruciatingly uncomfortable in her own skin as her gender identity shifts. I thought this representation of gender identity was very well done, honest, and respectful. How great it would be to be a shifter!
After reading Ms. Witt's intense, emotional attachment to this story, I'm attempting to adjust my reaction to it. She spoke of a tremendous amount of research into transgenders and her use of this story as a textbook or educational tool, I would guess. If you keep that in mind, you will be happy. I wasn't really looking to be quite so thoroughly educated. I really wanted more emotional attachment between the two main characters. That really didn't seem to gel until nearly 80% in. The messages were clear about how transgender people feel in their skin and how we, as a society, should love the person and not the gender.
I want sure what to expect going into this, I was simply recommended this book and I had previously read other books from the author. It was in a word amazing. Not the genre I was thinking, rather an education than mindless reading but I'm so glad I did. I'm bisexual and it seemed to hit a lot of thoughts I had had before and arguments I've heard. I can only imagine the impact it would have on those that may be transgender out transsexual. Gender query and to be the new unexplored reality and this book is amazing for getting into the mind of someone who may be having the same difficulties in life and relationships
A very interesting read. I was curious about how Damon would react to finding out that Alex, his girlfriend, is now stuck as a guy. How would that work? You know and love someone emotionally and physically as one sex, and then presto, they are the opposite sex. Damon is straight, and now the love of his life, Alex, is a guy. Does that really change who Alex is, and what he/she means to you? If you are a straight man, can you have sex with the person you love who is now physically the same sex as you? How would that work? Thought provoking, and insightful. Definitely recommended.
